GENERAL SUMMARY: Provides vision, leadership, and oversight for all aspects of the women's tennis program: coaching the team; plans, organizes, and supervises team practices identifies, evaluates, and recruits student-athletes; and works within the NCAA, USA South Athletic Conference guidelines; the guidelines of federal, state, and local laws; and college, department and division policies and procedures. Reports to the director of athletics and works with student athletes, co-workers, faculty, staff, students and their families, officials, other coaches and teams both on and off campus.


  1. Provides vision, leadership, and oversight for all aspects of the women's tennis program, to include coaching the team; planning, organizing, and supervising team practices; actively identifying, evaluating, and recruiting student-athletes; and working within the NCAA, USA South Athletic Conference guidelines.
  2. Provides leadership through a strong commitment to the academic achievement of student-athletes; by monitors and actively encourages participants to succeed academically and represent the college with leadership and integrity, both on and off the court.
  3. Coordinates all on and off-campus recruitment activities within the guidelines of the NCAA.
  4. Ensures compliance with all NCAA, USA South Athletic Conference, college and department of athletics regulations and policies.
  5. Provides leadership and coaching for the women's intercollegiate tennis team.
  6. Schedules, implements, and attends all pre-season, in-season, and post-season practices and contests.
  7. Schedules all varsity contests; coordinates special events; and hosts college tournament(s).
  8. Provides financial accountability for all ASC and non-ASC tennis functions hosted by the coach/team/department.
  9. Oversees strength and conditioning for tennis.
  10. Prepares athletes for competition and performs post-season evaluations.
  11. Coordinates team travel arrangements.
  12. Supervises the laundering and care of team uniforms, and care and maintenance of team facilities and equipment.
  13. Supervises volunteer assistant coaching staff.
  14. Ensures compliance with athletic department facility contracts, scheduling priorities, and guidelines.
  15. Reports weekly recruiting contact data and maintains accountability for recruiting/enrollment benchmarks.
  16. Participates in designated staff functions including job related in-service training.
  17. Teaches a minimum of two physical education classes each academic year.
  18. Supervises and coordinates the work of volunteer assistant coaches and graduate assistants.

Education: Undergraduate degree required; masters' degree preferred in related occupational field of study
Experience: Minimum of two years work experience at the collegiate level with proven recruiting experience

  • Considerable knowledge of fitness concepts and techniques, NCAA rules and regulations, and rules and scoring.
  • Familiarity with recruiting techniques, high school coaches and athletes, and student-athlete concerns.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Strong computer skills in a Windows-based environment (Microsoft: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint), including at least intermediate level word processing and spreadsheet development.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations, as part of a team, and collaborate with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, to maintain confidentiality, and to supervise others.


  • Irregular hours are required on a regular basis.
  • Travel required from office to other locations on a regular basis.
  • Coaches must comply with all NCAA rules and regulations, and have a duty to cooperate with and furnish the NCAA and the College with truthful and accurate information regarding rules violations. Coaches may be suspended or terminated if found to be in deliberate or serious violation of NCAA regulations.
  • Coaches will be evaluated through an annual performance appraisal process and are expected to meet annual recruitment and enrollment goals.

Expect intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, running, walking, throwing, and occasional moving of light objects. Work is performed in an office and sports fields, courts, etc.
