Hours: Part-time: Friday - Saturday 10pm - 6am

Overtime: Non-exempt

Job Grade: 5

GENERAL SUMMARY: Provides law enforcement and safety services within the guidelines of federal, state, and local laws, and college policies and procedures.  Officer will work primarily at an apartment complex owned by Agnes Scott College.  Reports to the sergeant or other designated person and works with co-workers, other public safety agencies, faculty, staff, students, visitors, and guests to protect and serve the residents of the college community.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Provides law enforcement and safety services.
  2. Patrols apartment complex to detect and suppress criminal activity.
  3. Take proactive steps to report and investigate safety hazards, identify suspicious person and activities.
  4. Must be on call for apartment tenants and be accessible during odd hours.
  5. Engage in monthly meeting with apartment residents.
  6. Performs on-campus safety services such as patrolling the campus, maintaining physical security, conducting arrests,
  7. Cites parking and traffic violations.
  8. Prepares criminal incident reports, accident reports, and arrest/detention documents.
  9. Testifies in court.
  10. Assists with community focus planning.

REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School diploma, trade school, or equivalent level of education. Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Certification as a law enforcement officer.

Experience: 1 year progressive law enforcement preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Considerable knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, county ordinances, college and departmental policies and procedures, traffic regulations, and investigative procedures.
  • Must be qualified to operate a firearm and possess the ability to maintain this qualification.
  • Familiarity with management and supervisory procedures.
  • Proficiency in first aid, CPR, local geographical area, courtroom procedures and security, self-defense techniques, and firearms.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, and good public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.

Other: 

  • Possess or have ability to obtain a valid state operator/driver's license for the type vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Irregular work hours and on-call hours are required.
  • Possess Georgia P.O.S.T. certification.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, walking, moving of light and heavy objects, and using tools and equipment that require a high degree of manual dexterity. Work is performed in an office, automobile, and field sites with exposure to noise, diseases, chemicals, inclement weather, and requires use of protective devices.  Must be able to defend oneself in the event of a physical attack and to use firearms effectively.
